Gray Reed is pleased to announce that Gray Reed Tax Partner Matt Roberts is Board Certified in Tax Law after passing the challenging and prestigious 2024 Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) exam.
Roberts is a tax litigator and trusted advisor with considerable experience helping U.S. and international clients successfully resolve all types of federal tax controversies involving civil or criminal liability, from tax audits and investigations to litigation, appeals and collection matters. Having served nearly three years as an attorney-advisor to the Chief Judge of the U.S. Tax Court in Washington, D.C., Roberts brings unique insight to navigating intricate government processes and developing innovative and cost-effective solutions to his clients’ tax problems.
With Roberts' certification, the firm now has two attorneys Board Certified in Tax Law by the TBLS.

TBLS Board Certification is a voluntary designation program certifying Texas attorneys in 28 specific areas of law. Out of 120,000 lawyers that are licensed to practice in Texas, only 6,950 are Board Certified. These lawyers have voluntarily applied for board certification, have a minimum of five years of practice experience (with at least three years in specific legal areas), completed at least 60 hours of continuing legal education, and passed a rigorous exam. Once certified, these lawyers meet additional criteria to continue their education and involvement in their specialty area as well as reapply for Board Certification every five years.
